Well I have talked to you about this one, but I'll say it all again. I think your composition is really well done in this photo. I think you did an awesome job capturing a background thats not mundane, but it is a tad overexposed. The body and tail feathers are perfectly sharp, but the wings are lacking the same sharpness. Looks like a bit of motion blur. Maybe a faster shutter speed was in order. Good wildlife photo, beautiful bird.

What can I say... I agree with Mike.

But as you know mike I knew the photo's flaws before I posted it...! I had a 1/500 on the shot on AV, I should have put it on TV

So you went to Alaska... lucky one! :(

I wish to go there too one day... :p

Wonderful catch nevertheless!

What a beauty!

Kurlowski is of course right but it is still such an amazing capture...

Should just put it on M! Your cameras smart, but not that smart. It has no idea your photographing something flying that fast. Its always best just to shoot manual. That way you have total control.

Kurlowski I know how is difficult to catch an animal in a wildlife ... We are not BBC Team so I can only give top marks for this moment of life ... keep it up Rian ! Great catch and I'm jealous ... I would like to go to Alaska ... ANYTIME !

Next time try to catch all parts of a eagle ... but never mind ... great picture ...:)

It's a beautiful shot but a bit blurry.

Decent sharpness (although I tend to use 1/1250 with best results for fast birds to avoid motion blur).
If you use the centre AF point to track a beast, I'd suggest either spot or centre weighted metering is you use shutter priority mode (full manual sometimes works better, less work for the camera, less lag when taking the photo).
Still, it's nice you managed to get a decent background other than just sky.
I can show you some of my swallows if you'd get on Yahoo ;)

An excellent capture Rian. The sharpness is fine considering the subject.

You did a very good work considering all the difficulties.....Very nice capture Rian!

PS
I consider ,even the present cameras, rather primitive and crude, just think how small is the spectrum of light intensity they can cover.....
